RumpelstiltskinRSS test

RumpelstiltskinRSS comes in several flavors:

Here is how to get the Android app test version, how to test the Android app test version, and how to switch back to the regular Android app version once you are done testing.

How to get the Android app test version

Step 1: buy the regular version if you haven't done that already.

Step 2: make sure your email address is on the testers whitelist. If you participated in a RumpelstiltskinRSS test before, your email address is already whitelisted. If this is your first RumpelstiltskinRSS test, please contact me. I will need the email address (@gmail.com) you use for downloading from Google Play. Adding it to the testers whitelist is a manual procedure, so it may take some time (up to, say, 24 hours). I will notify you when this step is completed.

Step 3: join the "internal test program". To do so, visit this page and use the "JOIN THE PROGRAM" button.

Step 4: uninstall RumpelstiltskinRSS from your device. If you get a warning you may loose data by uninstalling the app, don't worry. RumpelstiltskinRSS does not save any critical data.

Step 5: install RumpelstiltskinRSS (Internal Beta) from Google Play. To do so, visit the usual Google Play RumpelstiltskinRSS page. You should see 'RumpelstiltskinRSS (Internal Beta)' rather than 'RumpelstiltskinRSS'(*). Use the "Install" button to download and install this test version.

(*) If you don't see 'RumpelstiltskinRSS (Internal Beta)', you could try clearing the cache of the Google Play app on your device, as described on this Google Play support page under "Step 2: Clear the cache & data of the Play Store". Caveat: I am not sure if deleting the data as well, as suggested on this page, is a good idea, since I don't know if that erases any important data. Clearing the cache only should suffice and is save.

How to test the Android app test version

If you informed me about a bug in the regular version, and I answered it was solved in the test version, try to reproduce the bug and let me know if you still experience the issue.

Other than that, just use the app the regular way. If the app crashes or shows other weird behaviour, chances are it wrote some details about an error condition to a log file on your device. Just start the app again and it will silently upload this log file to my server and delete it from your device. To help me interpreting this log file, please contact me and describe what happened.

If you are willing to spend some time in an extra thorough test, here are some suggestions.

(If RumpelstiltskinRSS works correctly, the answer to all these questions should be "yes". Please contact me if the app fails to produce the expected notifications.)

Also, unless you explicitly switched of notifications in your System Settings, you should see a small asterisk (star) at the top of the screen as long as you are logged in.

(Again, the answer to these questions should be "yes". Please contact me if you see something different.)

Even if you do not find any bugs, I appreciate if you contact me and tell me about your test results. Please mention which Android version you are using. (My own device is quite old, so I am very curious how the app behaves under more recent Android versions.)

How to switch back to the regular Android app version

If for some reason you like the test version better than the regular one, it's okay to keep using it. But if you want to switch back to the regular version, here is how.

Step 1: leave the "internal test program". To do so, visit this page and use the "LEAVE THE PROGRAM" button.

Step 2: uninstall RumpelstiltskinRSS from your device. If you get a warning you may loose data by uninstalling the app, don't worry. RumpelstiltskinRSS does not save any critical data.

Step 3: install RumpelstiltskinRSS from Google Play. To do so, visit the usual Google Play RumpelstiltskinRSS page. You should see 'RumpelstiltskinRSS' again, not 'RumpelstiltskinRSS (Internal Beta)'(*). Use the "Install" button to download and install the regular version.

(*) If you still see 'RumpelstiltskinRSS (Internal Beta)', you could try clearing the cache of the Google Play app on your device, as described on this Google Play support page under "Step 2: Clear the cache & data of the Play Store". Caveat: I am not sure if deleting the data as well, as suggested on this page, is a good idea, since I don't know if that erases any important data. Clearing the cache only should suffice and is save.
